AN OLD FROM KISORO GUIDES ON WHY PEOPLE SHOULD KEEP MATEKE FAMILY OUT OF POWER.
On October 15, 1975, my appointment as teacher of Mutolere
secondary school was made official. I found there good friendly
teachers and one of them was real evil full of tribalism against both staff and
students, As I was leaving the school after three years, that aggressive man
celebrated with party that he has survived me, Mateke I will never forget his evil heart, some old
man in Kisoro narrated.
Later,
I came to realise that that day marked one chapter of my life closing for
another one to open, When I finally arrived innew school, it took me a few
weeks to understand that there was no evil heart in staff as it was for Mutolere.
During the Rwanda genocide against Tutsi 1994-95, thousands of them
sought refuge in the western part of Uganda and Mateke was harassing many of
them supporting those committing genocide against Tutsi.
It should not come as a surprise that we operate in an environment
that is openly hostile and rife with genocide supporters.many people have been
seeing Mateke trying to treat us as an enemy, undermining our work by firing many
of us from jobs when he was Lcv Kisoro district.
The ruling party of NRM under the leadership of Museveni continues to invest public money into the
rebel groups in DR Congo purposely to be production of another war in the
region and real narratives about the events do take place in Mubano Hotel
chaired by Mateke alongside her daughter sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi.
Meanwhile
all these caused our neighbors to close the border and there is a tendency by
Mateke and some other politicians in Kisoro to put the story behind that people
are not feeling the negative impact, This is not a value judgement, but a fact.
Reconciliation
is easy to talk about when the group fueling another war in the region is
simply no longer there, so far the very person causing trouble is coming to
stand as woman Member of parliament, if she wins the rest will be bloodshed.
The
collaboration of Sarah and his father Mateke with terrorists in DR Congo who
benefits from the support from Mateke
and his boss president Museveni will cause deeper problem unless people vote
them out.
If
we were not one, the Rwanda government would have attacked us militarily for
hosting these evils around but our being brothers protected us but still we
need to speak out so that Mateke and group can be kicked out of Kisoro.
We still see the very people, who killed their brothers burnt down villages in
the 1994 walking in the streets of Kisoro freely; we still hear the same dehumanizing
vocabulary from Mateke and her daughter
That is why staying in village with such evils and one being
minister sometimes still feels like
being in a war-time enclave, having once lived and survived the experience of
an enclave caused by the very people, I have continued to feel surrounded even
after 1994 genocide. It comes to me naturally, I even like being surrounded,
try hard fight that daughter of Mateke not to join the higher office.
