HOW COVID-19 EXPOSED MUSEVENI AS FAKE
LEADER
A typical relief pack in Uganda consists of a few kilos of maize
flour, a pack of 6kgs of rotten beans colloquially known as "relief food for
the vulnarable poor", was distributed to poor and low income households in
times of lockdown.
Museveni served this food as immediate aid, a stop gap
measure but for the people the food that was received was fake and a normal
human being couldn’t serve innocent citizens such kind of food stuff.
Kampala lord mayor who opposed this poor quality food stuff
said “Instead of asking what people need, Museveni assume that he already know
the people’s needs yet he knows nothing”. Such mindless generosity conveys that
the covid19 disaster should subsist on meager allocations.
After months of downplaying the coronavirus outbreak, Museveni
eventually imposed a lockdown of metro manila, quickly deploying police and
military to enforce immediate compliance. This militarised response proceeds
from the government's view of the pandemic as a national security issue rather
than a public health emergency.
His rotten system reinforces the law and order approach to
governance and the president's usual obsession of framing every crisis
situation as a "war" the poor have struggled to keep themselves safe
and healthy. As hospitals scrambled to manage the chaos from an overload of
patients and severe shortage in essential equipment and personnel, the poor's
already diminished access to healthcare dwindled further.
The unemployment rate remains
astonishingly high as companies adjust to an environment severely altered by
COVID-19, corruption and over staying in power which has neglected the
retirement age limit.
Amid exhortations to self-isolate at home and observe
physical distancing, stranded workers were admonished by government officials to find temporary accommodation
to house them for the duration of the quarantine. Informal settlers and the
homeless found themselves not only at a greater risk of contracting the virus
but also in violation of strict directives by dint of their dense living
conditions and hundreds were seen walking back to villages from kampala to
Gulu, Kisoro, Arua Moroto etc.
Coronavirus has proved that Museveni has narrow ideas of
what people deserve, many people have complained on his mechanism of giving
official statement as leader who has no skills of reading a speech but rather
passes south while heading west.
